Two faces of Lara: Taking Meaning from Teeny-Meeny outfits

Academic 6:15pm 15 min

How do we assign meaning to game characters beyond their visual appearance? This talk examines Lara Croft and asks whether re-clothing her while making her less ballsy and brash creates a more feminist and progressive character. Drawing on a reworking of Harriet’s master’s thesis, it explores how appearance and characterisation shape meaning in games.
