From One Role to Every Role: Going from AAA to a Two-Person Studio

After working as a Technical Designer at Ubisoft on XDefiant, Simone moved into running Frog Spawn Studio, a two-person indie studio where her responsibilities suddenly extended far beyond design. Since then, the studio has released two mobile games, continued development on Puddle Pals and explored several other projects. This talk reflects on that transition: which lessons from AAA development remained valuable, what changed without specialised departments, and what it actually takes to finish games as a very small team.

Simone Scouller is a game developer and Director of Frog Spawn Studio, a two-person indie studio that has released two mobile games and is developing the cosy multiplayer adventure Puddle Pals. She works across game design, engineering, art and production, taking ideas from early concepts through launch and live operation. Before starting Frog Spawn Studio, Simone worked as a Technical Designer at Ubisoft on XDefiant.
